It probably does make a difference when using a torque plate, however, the VG's block is so damn thick, heavy, and internally webbed that the difference would probably be less than a ten-thousandth... There's more material worn out of the cylidner in the first 1000 miles than the difference you would see with a torque plate. Look at where the head bolts fasten to the block and you'll see why there is virtually no correlation to headbolt torque and cylinder deformation. This is NOT the case with all engines though. I've never used a torqueplate in my VGs and all of the highest HP Z32's I've built didn't either, one ringing into the 4-digit power level to boot.. If you want to use one, you aren't going to hurt it but I have my doubts that it will make any difference.
